The Rugby Championship starts in July and follows a home-and-away structure. Matches are typically played across six rounds and each of the four national teams face their opponents twice.
The points system for The Rugby Championship is similar to other international rugby union competitions, with a winning team receiving four points and two points awarded for a draw. However, the bonus points system is different to the one used in other tournaments. For The Rugby Championship, an attacking bonus point is given to the team that scores at least three more tries than the opposing team, while the defending bonus point is given to the team that loses by seven or fewer points.
