In the post-war era of rugby union, Agen Rugby remained competitive and the side was regularly challenging for titles by the 1980s. In this decade alone, the side won two French Championships and finished as runners-up on two more occasions. In addition, the side also won the Challenge Yves du Manoir once and finished as runners-up once.
In the professional era of rugby union, Agen Rugby have also been successful. In 1998, the side reached the final of the European Rugby Challenge Cup and, in 2002, they also reached the French championship final.
2002 marks the last time that Agen Rugby have competed for major honours in France. Since the top league in France became the Top 16 and then the Top 14, Agen Rugby have mainly played in the Pro D2, which is the second division of French rugby. However, they were the champions of the Pro D2 in 2010 and were promotion play-off winners in 2015 and 2017. As a result, ever since, the side have competed in the Top 14.
Due to the success of the Agen Rugby team over the years, many top international stars have played for the side. Notable former players include Argentina prop Omar Hasan, France prop Christian Califano and New Zealand prop Kees Meeuws. As the side still plays in the Top 14, a number of current international players still feature in the Agen Rugby squad, too. These include Giorgi Tetrashvili from Georgia and Tonga player Paul Ngauamo.
