Finn Russell

Finn Russell is one of Scotland’s finest ever rugby union players. A legendary fly-half and centre, he’s been capped more than 50 times by his country and was even called into the British and Irish Lions squads in 2017 and 2021.

Born into a sporting family on 23 September 1992, Finn Russell started playing rugby at a young age in Stirling. However, he quickly moved to Falkirk to improve his chances of playing regularly.

In 2012, Finn Russell played for Scotland at the World Rugby U20 Championships. During this time, he was also selected to play for Ayr and helped them win the league and cup double in the 2012-13 season. At this point, he joined the Glasgow Warriors and began to play professional rugby in the PRO14.

During his time at Glasgow Warriors, Finn Russell was instrumental. He arguably played some of his finest rugby in the 2014-15 season, when he almost single-handedly dragged the Glasgow Warriors to their first ever PRO12 championship (now the PRO14). However, in 2018, he moved to Racing 92 to play in France’s Top 14 competition. This is where he still plies his trade today.

Although Finn Russell has been a standout performer in club rugby, some of his finest performances have been on the international stage. Ever since 2014, he’s been a near-constant fixture for Scotland. He’s been capped more than 50 times by his country and he’s featured in two Rugby World Cups. 

On top of this, Finn Russell was called up to the British and Irish Lions squad for the 2017 tour of New Zealand. Although he didn’t make a test appearance on the tour, due to his sustained period of success since, he’s been called into the British and Irish Lions squad once again for the 2021 tour of South Africa. 

Still only relatively young and with many years of top-class rugby ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what Finn Russell does next.
